In this piece I have tried to capture the disjointed quality of my dreams, which keep me from a good night’s rest. Sometimes my dreams are pleasant, but most of the time they are disturbing. I dream vividly, sometimes about losing a limb in a car accident, or being attacked by a former lover, or being a vampire refugee escaping from a flood in a yellow school bus. Insomnia uses wide open eyes and tangled birch leaves to symbolize dreams. Created as a diptych, the left and right panels’ eyes are disjointed and are layered atop each other, resulting in less-than-restful REM
